Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) - ������Ƶ presentation ceremony April 2024.

Professor Thomson’s visit demonstrated the continuing importance of the links between the University and Singapore, where more than 5,000 students are currently studying for a ������Ƶ degree.  The alumni community in Singapore is nearly 60,000, which mean that nearly one in every 100 people in Singapore holds a UoL degree.

On Wednesday 3 April Professor Thomson hosted a panel discussion at Eden Hall, official residence of the High Commissioner to Singapore, on the theme Skills for a Changing World of Work: The Challenges and Opportunities of AI. 

Following a welcome from  (acting British High Commissioner to Singapore), joining Wendy on the panel were , Associate Professor, Director (RD), Institute for Adult Learning, Singapore University of Social Sciences; , Regional CEO (ASEAN), Amity Education Group; and , Deputy Executive Director, Singapore National Employers Federation and UoL alumnus.

The debate took place to discuss the challenges and opportunities that AI can provide to graduates for career development, and built on discussions on the Future of Work, which touched on ChatGPT and other AI tools. The University recently partnered with think tank DEMOS to produce the report .

On Thursday 4 April and Friday 5 April Professor Thomson attended graduation ceremonies at (SIM). During the Thursday event Professor Thomson presented a gift to SIM in recognition of the organisation’s 60th anniversary. 

Professor Thomson said: “I’m delighted to be in Singapore to celebrate the graduation of students at SIM, with whom we share a very special relationship. SIM has been an important ������Ƶ partner for nearly 40 years. Beginning in 1986 with an intake of 40 students, I am proud to say that today there are over 46,000 SIM-������Ƶ graduates who have successfully completed their studies, having benefited from our shared commitment to the transformative power of education.

Professor Thomson also toured Amity Global Institute’s new Orchard Road Campus.  is part of the leading world-wide Amity Education Group which has over two decades of experience in the field of education.

Professor Thomson concluded: “My visits to Singapore always leave me with a feeling of great optimism - so many smart minds, ambitious and innovative young people, organisations and businesses. I am positive that the links between the ������Ƶ and Singapore will grow even stronger over the coming years, allowing us to explore new business, cultural and academic opportunities.”
