Dr Shela Sheikh, Senior Lecturer in International Politics, is part of the editorial team for the recently launched plurilingual journal, Pluriverse: A Journal of Decolonial Ecologies, published by the Earth–World Observatory (). The editorial committee is comprised of Aude Chesnais, Malcom Ferdinand, Erwan Molinié, Shela Sheikh and Marie Thiann-Bo-Morel. Together with Ferdinand, Sheikh is co-director of issue #1, Decolonising Climate Change’, launched in February 2024.

About Pluriverse: A Journal of Decolonial Ecologies

The destruction of ecosystems has accelerated and exacerbated the relations of domination between the global North and South. Western environmentalism, by excluding part of the world’s peoples, has failed to provide the theoretical, practical and political tools needed to confront the global ecological crisis and build a fairer world. Drawing on the experiences of Indigenous and subaltern peoples in the South and North, and in formerly colonised territories, including overseas territories, Pluriverse offers a plural approach to ecological thinking that goes beyond Western modernity. International, interdisciplinary and multilingual, the journal enables us to think about the possibilities for action according to our social and geographical position; it outlines different possibilities for making the world together at a time when the conditions for the Earth’s habitability are in jeopardy.

About the Earth–World Observatory (L’Observatoire Terre-Monde)

The Earth–World Observatory (L’Observatoire Terre-Monde, OTM) was born of a shared desire to highlight the diversity of ecological issues inherent in France’s so-called overseas territories and their neighbouring regions. At a time when the ecological imperative requires us to collectively rethink our ways of living on Earth and living together, the Observatory aims to provide a forum for study, action, and the dissemination of research and knowledge on the ecological issues inherent in these ‘overseas territories’, their neighbouring regions and the rest of the world. The association’s activities are currently based around five thematic areas: research, documentation, education, monitoring and advocacy. Through these actions, the OTM hopes to help build a shared world that respects the fundamental rights and dignity of human beings, as well as those of non-humans and the Earth’s ecosystems.
