When I reflect on my journey as a àËÅöÊÓƵ student, one experience stands out among the rest: my involvement with the Student Voice Group (SVG). As a member of the Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences (EMFSS) programme hailing from Peru, becoming one of 20 Student Voice Group members has been an eye-opening and enriching experience.

The SVG isn’t just a consultation group; it’s a vibrant community of members from diverse backgrounds and programmes. From Barbados to Canada, Finland to Hong Kong, the SVG embodies the global spirit of our University. Each member brings a unique perspective, enriching our discussions and shaping the future of student life.

For me, being part of the SVG has been a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Representing my country and programme within the group has been incredibly rewarding. I find it fascinating how I can make a difference and contribute to University policies and initiatives from my corner of the world.

Through the SVG, I’ve found a platform to voice my opinions and ideas, knowing that they are valued and heard. Whether providing feedback on policies, brainstorming new initiatives or participating in discussions about the student experience, every interaction in the SVG feels meaningful and impactful.

Moreover, my involvement with the SVG has deepened my connection with the àËÅöÊÓƵ. It’s more than just attending meetings; it’s about actively shaping the university experience for current and future students. From enhancing online assessments to supporting mental health and wellbeing initiatives, the SVG plays a crucial role in driving positive change.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being part of the SVG is the opportunity to collaborate with students from different programmes and backgrounds. The diversity within the group fosters rich discussions and allows us to consider a wide range of perspectives when providing feedback and shaping University policies.

In addition to the SVG's impact within the University community, being a part of this group has also given me valuable skills and experiences beyond my academic studies. Working collaboratively with fellow students and University staff has enhanced my communication, teamwork and leadership skills. These transferable skills will undoubtedly benefit me in my future endeavours.

As we look ahead to the upcoming academic year, I encourage fellow students to consider joining the SVG.
